Youth United - Building Guide

What is Youth United?

Youth United (YU) is a Habitat for Humanity program for youth ages 5-25. The YU leader and team motto is: “Raise Awareness, Raise Funds, Raise the Roof.” YU leadership opportunities (and year-round family activities) teach our youth to help fulfill a family’s dream of home ownership, create lifetime friendships and have fun while contributing to eliminate poverty housing in our local area.

Youth United Safety Rules

Safety is always our # 1 priorty when working on a house. Click here to review our Work Site Safety Policy. All Youth United volunteers are required to bring a Parental Permission Form with them to work on the site. Click here to download the form. In addition:

  • Youth must be 18 years old or older to be on the site when power tools are being used
  • No children of partner families are allowed on the site unless they are 18 years old or over when power tools are being used
  • Youth 16-18 years old must confirm with Jeanne (via RSVP) and include the parent or adult who will accompany them for site work
  • Youth must commit to the entire build day, except for pre-approval for special circumstances
  • We will now schedule Youth Build days on weekends, pending the approval of Mike Strada and Eric Nielsen (Toll Brothers) who will be present from
8:30 AM - 4:00 PM when youth are present
  • Youth teams will commit at least 2 weeks in advance of the date they are scheduled to work and specify the exact number of youth and adults who are coming to the site
  • Youth coming to the site in teams of 4 or more must have one adult per team to supervise them; any youth in groups of less than 4 people or as individuals must each have a parent or adult present for supervision
  • Teams and individuals MUST get parental signatures on the new consent and release form (dated November 2006)
  • In January 2007, HFHI will release new guidelines about safety and protecting youth
