What is Youth United?
Youth United (YU) is a Habitat for Humanity program for youth ages 5-25. The YU leader and team motto is: “Raise Awareness, Raise Funds, Raise the Roof.” YU leadership opportunities (and year-round family activities) teach our youth to help fulfill a family’s dream of home ownership, create lifetime friendships and have fun while contributing to eliminate poverty housing in our local area.
Work Site Directions
The work site is near the corner of Airport Road and Evan Drive in East Windsor - just across
from the East Windsor Speedway. You c an’t miss the house we are currently
building - it has a big Habitat for Humanity sign on the front of it.
Our work trailer is just next door to that house. Volunteers are asked to stop at the work
trailer to sign in. We also try to keep some water, and paper cups, etc. on hand in the trailer.
Just ask anyone you see at the worksite to direct you.
To reach the work site from the New Jersey Turnpike:
Take Exit 8 (Hightstown Exit) off the turnpike (whether coming from the north or south)
At the foot of the exit ramp bear right into Hightstown.
When you can’t go any further without turning (about two or three blocks), turn left
onto Main Street, Hightstown.
Continue on Main Street - it will bear right at a fork, and
it becomes Mercer Street after that fork in the road.
Go past the post office on
the right, a diner on the left and an assortment of shops, homes, etc.
Stay on Mercer
Street for about a mile or so, past a cemetery and some little shopping
plazas.
When you see the bicycle shop ahead of you on the left, you will be approaching
the corner of Airport Road and Mercer Street.
Turn left (the only way you can turn at
that corner) onto Airport Road and go to the very next corner. That is Evan Drive and you
will see our house under construction - 3rd house in on the right.
To reach the work site from Route 130 and/or Rte 571:
At the intersection of 130 and 571, take Rte 571 toward Hightstown.
Continue on Route 571
(it is also Stockton Street in Hightstown), until you can’t go any further. That is the
corner of 571 and Main Street.
Turn Right onto Main Street and then follow the directions
above - staying to the right as Main Street becomes Mercer Street, go past the post office on
your right, etc.
